The Old Rugged Cross

It’s been really obvious since day one that singing is something I’m meant to do.

But it wasn’t always something I was encouraged to do.

I was told was that my voice was ok, but “nobody’s ever going to listen to you with headphones on.”

And I believed it….

Come thou Fount of Every Blessing

I was pregnant.

Those last few months of pregnancy, nothing fits.

Accordingly, I had ordered bra strap extenders from Amazon.

What I got was a message from God…

Amazing Grace

I planned a rock climbing outing for my birthday a few years ago. It was fun until my boyfriend let go…

and free falls….

and it was entirely my fault…

Faith is the Victory

After leaving the military, I wanted to get a “real job”.

So I started working in our local courthouse, for the registrar of voters office. Regular hours, off most weekends, no travel…it should have been a dream come true.

What I thought I wanted turned out to be an awful fit.

I lasted 6 months before telling my husband, “I don’t know what I want to do, but I know it’s not this!”

I quit and a few months later found my ideal job doing something that was definitely NOT the “real job” I thought I wanted.

Proof that despite our plans, faith is the true victory!

Anchor My Soul

Do anchors hold you down or lift you up?

Both.

I promise it’s not a trick question.

The answer involves 🛳 ships and 🧗🏽‍♂️climbers and will change how you understand that word!

Walk through the Valley in Peace

I’ve noticed recently that our son Henry has started waving the exact same way that I wave.

Now you might say, “Well of course, cause that’s how you wave.”

But honestly, he’s never seen me wave because he’s always in the stroller in front of me when we walk around the neighborhood.

It freaked me out that he is picking up on mannerisms he’s not even seeing until I realized

He’s not mimicking ME, he’s mimicking the people waving BACK at me!

Because people wave back at you the way you waved to them.

Our life is a reflection of how we are showing up in it.

Which causes me to reflect, am I showing up with as much peace as possible?

Nothing but the Blood of Jesus

I’ve really struggled with whether or not to share this story.

It’s about my first experience in prison ministry and how it exposed some really ugly feelings of bias I didn’t realize I held.

While this is HUGELY uncomfortable to admit, I believe it’s important to share how God worked a miracle in my heart through that experience.

When I first entered the prison, I was horrified at the things that started running through my head.

I confronted those feelings and pleaded with God to change me,

What happened next was nothing short of a miracle…

Navy Hymn | Eternal Father Strong to Save

I was in the United States Navy as a singer. If you didn’t know that was a job in the military, you’re not alone. Even the recruiter, when I went to apply for the job, didn’t know that that was a job.

I ended up graduating college and going to boot camp within three days, so you can imagine it was a challenge. While I was there the whole time, I was thinking about this person who was sitting in front of me at my college graduation, and overheard me talking about how I was joining the Navy and going to boot camp in a few days.

He looked me up and down and said, you’ll never make it.

It turns out he was a Navy veteran and pretty sure that I didn’t have what it took.

I thought about him every day of bootcamp because I did not want him to be right. I was determined because of that statement that I was going to prove him wrong. So I’ve proved him wrong, but I don’t even know his name.

Bootcamp is difficult for a reason. It galvanizes you with other military members because we made it through this thing that nobody else will ever understand.

I think that’s what hard times are like in our lives. Like it could be bootcamp, but it could be something else. It could be any number of things that we encounter that are like, ah, I really don’t know if I can make it through this.

And I would encourage you to say to yourself. Yes, I can. I absolutely can. And when I get through this, I will not only have a story to tell, but there will be other people who have also made it through this who I will forever have something in common with.

Our song today is the Navy hymn, Eternal father strong to save. The words of this are powerful, encouraging, and a great reminder that God’s strength is enough to get you through this.

Need a lyric video to sing along with? I’ve got you covered!
